Community Payback Order: Summary of Local Authority Annual Reports 2023 – 24
This report presents an overview of the delivery and impact of Community Payback Order, and subsequent requirements across Scotland’s 32 local authorities in the year 2023-24.
Since the introduction of CPOs, over 11.6 million hours of unpaid work have been completed, with 1,387,039 hours recorded this year alone, significantly benefiting communities. In addition to the reparative work undertaken, this report also underscores the growing complexity of the needs of individuals serving community sentences. Despite some challenges, justice partners, third-sector organisations, and local communities continue to deliver innovative, person-centred interventions that support rehabilitation and desistance.
To sustain and enhance the positive outcomes highlighted in this year’s report, ongoing investment and collaboration are crucial to continue to foster safer, stronger communities and a reduced prison population.
