Yara's role

Community Justice Scotland is dedicated to being an evidence led organisation and my work will help support them to deliver on this ambition. My role involves using data to understand problems, support innovation and change, monitor improvement and to measure progress towards strategic outcomes for community justice. At the heart of my role is a desire to support evidence-based decision-making and drive improvements across the justice system. I provide support and specialist advice to people working across the organisation but particularly to the policy and improvement team. My work will also be used to support external stakeholder engagement and ensure that we work together to improve outcomes for those in or affected by the justice system.

Background

I have always been drawn to understanding complex systems, and my father being a lawyer had a strong influence on me, sparking my interest in justice and the causes he’s been advocating for. While my background is in Biomedical Science and Neuroscience, I’ve honed solid data analysis skills through academia and research. Over time, I’ve developed a real passion for using data to support informed decision-making and bring improvements into people’s life. I’m now eager to use my knowledge to drive positive changes within the justice system, blending my analytical skills with the values instilled by my father to promote fairer outcomes and meaningful reforms for everyone involved.
