Enhance Your Training Practice – (EYTP) Edinburgh

November 10 @ 9:30 am - November 11 @ 4:30 pm

Enhancing your training practice is a three day course for people in a training role or those considering entering a training role. The course is blended, with one day of asynchronous learning on Google classroom and two days of face to face learning. During the face to face learning sessions all delegates will plan and deliver a short learning session known as a micro-train[1].

Overall learning Aim: To develop knowledge, understanding and skills associated with effective, learner centred training.

Day 1

The first day of training takes place independently in Google Classroom. Delegates explore theories of adult learning and approaches to training delivery by accessing videos, quizzes, reading materials and comment walls.

Learning intentions:

  • Explain some theories of learning
  • Debate learning preferences and their use
  • Contrast children’s learning (pedagogy) and adult learning (androgogy)
  • Create some characteristics for the role of the trainer
  • Evaluate the usefulness of different types of activities we can use in training

Day 2

The second day of training develops themes explored in day one with a focus on applying a learner-centred approach to delivery. Taught sessions are followed by workshop sessions in which delegates collaborate to create micro-train sessions to deliver to their peers for constructive feedback.

Learning intentions:

  1. Devise principles for the role of the trainer
  2. Explain the benefits of the learner-centred approach
  3. Assess different questioning techniques
  4. Define formative, summative and ipsative assessment
  5. Explore planning methods
  6. Create a micro-train session to deliver to peers

Day 3

The third day focuses on delivery and feedback with delegates delivering micro-train sessions and giving/receiving feedback.

Learning intentions:

  1. Create a micro-train session to deliver to peers
  2. Critique micro-train sessions
