Released on parole

If parole is granted the Parole Board sets conditions for the person. This can include, for example, a requirement to inform the supervising officer of any change of circumstance e.g. change of address of employment, a requirement to stay at specific accommodation, or a requirement to participate in counselling or treatment for a specific problem such as drug or alcohol misuse. Requests to change these conditions can be made at any point over the course of the licence period but there must be good reason for doing so.

More information is available within the Scottish Parole Board Annual Report 2023-24 here.

In November 2018, Scottish Government launched a consultation on proposed reforms of the Parole Board for Scotland, aimed at improving the experience of victims in the parole process and to increase transparency. Community Justice Scotland considered these reforms in collaboration with Wellbeing Scotland, a third sector organisation supporting people who have experienced significant trauma.
