Marked for Court
When marking cases, Procurators Fiscal have the option to mark for Court. This means that a case will proceed through the Scottish court system.
The most recent data shows that in 2024/25 there were a total of 92,378 cases registered for Court. This does not include petitions. (The norm is for solemn proceedings to start with the presentation of a Petition to the sheriff. The Petition itself is a document which amongst other things contains the charges facing the accused).
